The Women’s Pavilion

The pavilion was the first ward block for women with lung diseases. Its floor plan was designed in such a way that all facilities, such as toilets, washing and bathing rooms, the examination rooms and the dining room could be reached according to the “principle of short distances”. The wards were located on the opposite south side of the building, so that the patients had maximum sunlight and an unobstructed view of the park. Somewhat confusing today, the building was numbered differently at different times, e.g. as BII, but also as AIV.

The building from the first construction phase, which resembles a Sleeping Beauty’s castle and exudes a morbid charm, shows a high degree of roof damage and signs of vandalism. Thanks to the purchase made in 2019 and the initial safety measures taken by HPG Projektentwicklungs GmbH, this building is also set to be renovated in line with its listed status and later used for tourism purposes, including temporary exhibitions and as an event venue. Guided tours of the building are already being offered. A workshop and storage rooms for secured relics from the sanatorium era have temporarily taken up residence here.
