The kitchen
The kitchen was used to care for 600 female patients and around 400 members of staff. As the kitchen staff were predominantly female and a strict separation of the sexes was initially practiced on the premises, the kitchens and wash houses were located on the women’s side.
Guests arriving by train and wishing to visit the treetop walk are still welcomed to the Quadrant A site by the sight of the striking building, which has been badly damaged by material theft and vandalism. However, guided tours of the building and parts of the historic supply corridor that have already been repaired are already being offered. Initial safety measures in the entrance area give an idea of the effort involved in the overall restoration. In future, this building with its impressive main room will be available as an event hall and for catering purposes, among other things.
