Discovering the surgery

The surgery
The surgery building is one of the last buildings of the entire Beelitz sanatoriums. From 1930, seriously ill tuberculosis patients could also be treated here in 3 operating theaters. The patients were mainly accommodated in single-bed rooms. A modern military hospital was housed in the building until 1994.
The building impresses with its clear, expressionist design language – even when in need of renovation. The solitary structure shows clear damage to the roof caused by material theft. This and the traces of vandalism that occurred after the withdrawal of the Russian armed forces – such as missing window panes and destroyed doors – are gradually being repaired by the current owner, HPG Projektentwicklungs GmbH. The building is being secured and put to use by the administration of the adventure park, among others. Initial revitalization work on the eastern end of the building and to secure the roof began in 2019. Guided tours of the building are offered for interested parties.
