The Gatehouse
The Gatehouse was once the entrance to a separate, self-contained world. All four quadrants have identical entrance houses in which retired officers once lived with their families. These gatehouses were the hub of communication with the outside world. All access to the quadrants was regulated and recorded here.
Until the opening of a modern, central Welcome Center, our Service Center is located on the ground floor of the building.
In the gatehouse: our service center.
Here we welcome tour groups, sell annual tickets and vouchers or help with tips for individual exploration of the old sanatoriums and the surrounding excursion region. A souvenir shop completes the offer in the central room of the building, which is also open to all interested visitors during opening hours. Books, postcards, stickers and magnets as well as the popular “rusty” vintage sculptures are on offer.
The administration of the adventure park temporarily uses rooms on the upper floor.
With its counterpart on the opposite side of the street, our gatekeeper’s house, which has been restored in keeping with its listed status, illustrates the old, strict separation of the sexes in the sanatoriums.
